Connie Lewis, affectionally known as Ms. Connie, has been an amazing volunteer since she was diagnosed five years ago and was asked by her Survivor friend, Constance Coleman, to volunteer at the Pink in the Rink hockey fundraiser at Bojangles Coliseum.
"People were talking about CBF and what a great organization it was for the [breast cancer] community. They either knew someone or had received services and couldn't have spoken more positively of the organization...their smiles were genuine. I loved that and decided this is a place where I would love to be involved. The rest is history."
From filling inspiration jars and comfort bags, to answering phones and organizing the wigs, bras and storage closet. Ms. Connie has become a consistent helping hand (and heart) especially over the last two years of operating during a pandemic. We see Ms. Connie at The Pink House each and every week.
As if her time wasn't enough, she rallied friends and family in the midst of the pandemic, raising $1,000 to help us meet the needs of the breast cancer community.
"Carolina Breast Friends always goes the extra mile in offering programs, events, and resources for Survivors. I have volunteered with other agencies, but CBF really allows me to personally see the care that each survivor receives from the staff when they walk through the door. For Survivors, like me, to hear positive and affirming words that you are not on this journey alone, and no matter where you are in your journey the organization is here to support and help, is a vital and uplifting message that I hear each day many times. And this message is true, and it nourishes my spirit and motivates me to keep going!"
We are so grateful for the time Ms. Connie dedicates to serve other Survivors and thank her for her ongoing love and support.
Says Ms. Connie, "God guides my heart to where He wants me to be, so here I am with a joyful heart to be with my Carolina Breast Friends family as we support and uplift our community of survivors."
"Volunteers do not necessarily have the time; they just have the heart." ~Elizabeth Andrew
