Now that I am on the other side, I want to give back to those going through this now and continue the amazing work CBF is doing to make this a safe and supportive sisterhood."
Lana, a 21-year breast cancer Survivor, is not just a testament to strength, but also an embodiment of the power of giving back. After her own battle with breast cancer, Lana found solace and purpose in volunteering at Carolina Breast Friends (CBF).
The Pink House, a familiar sight during Lana's drives, caught her attention as she knew it served the breast cancer community. However, it wasn't until 2019, after becoming an empty-nester, that Lana decided to step through its doors. Starting with making comfort bags, handling calls, and answering phones, Lana's dedication and enthusiasm quickly propelled her into the role of a Mentor for others facing the challenges of breast cancer.
Her commitment to raising awareness for CBF led Lana to represent the organization at various events, including Winthrop University, 24 Hours of Booty, and golf events. Lana's efforts have played a crucial role in educating and reaching out to the community, ensuring that the support offered by CBF reaches those who need it most.
Currently, Lana's weekly presence is felt as she leads the charge in picking up beautiful flowers from Trader Joe's. These flowers, a symbol of hope and beauty, are made available to Survivors & Thrivers each week at The Pink House. Lana's initiative not only brightens lives of Survivors & Thrivers but also creates a welcoming environment for them to find support and camaraderie.
Gratitude permeates Lana's every action, and she emphasizes the importance of cherishing every moment. Five years ago, in tandem with her volunteer work at CBF, Lana embarked on a new journey by founding Dormitory 101. Her company specializes in premium luxury collegiate blankets, a venture that reflects Lana's belief in seizing the present and taking chances on oneself.
Lana's story serves as a beacon of inspiration, reminding us all that time is precious, and the present is the opportune moment to make a positive impact.
